Youth and Schools Cricket

The Kei Cricket Youth and Schools Programme serves as the cornerstone of the region’s player
development pathway, with a strong focus on both school's cricket and hub-based development structures.
This programme plays a vital role in talent identification, nurturing young cricketers from grassroots level
through to provincial representation.
Despite infrastructure challenges—most notably the reliance on a single fully developed facility, the
Khaya Majola Cricket Oval—the programme continues to grow in both reach and impact across the Kei
region. Through strategic partnerships with schools and community hubs, Kei Cricket ensures that
opportunities for participation and development remain accessible to aspiring young players.
Kei Cricket proudly fields both boys’ and girls’ teams across multiple age groups, ranging from Under-13
to Under-19. These teams compete annually against the fifteen other Cricket South Africa unions at
regional and national tournaments, providing valuable exposure and high-level competitive experience.
The girls’ programme, in particular, has shown remarkable growth and success in recent years,
consistently delivering strong performances at national competitions. A standout achievement includes
Nomandi Junior Secondary School, which has represented the Eastern Cape at the prestigious South
African Schools T20 Challenge for two consecutive years—competing against some of the top cricketing
schools and hubs in the country.
Through continued investment in youth development, Kei Cricket remains committed to building a
sustainable pipeline of talented cricketers, while also promoting inclusivity, education, and holistic growth
both on and off the field.
